There is plenty of parking onsite, lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Join Andrew Murdoch and Jake Chitty at our Manchester hospital for a small group masterclass where we’ll take you through the orthopaedic examination, differential diagnoses and further investigations of common problems affecting the forelimb and hindlimb of the dog and cat.
This day is targeted at vets who wish to learn, or refresh, their basic orthopaedic skills. Our aim is that you leave the hospital feeling confident you can recognise a range of causes of lameness and understand the treatment of common conditions including elbow and hip dysplasia, humeral intracondylar fissure, patellar luxation, cruciate disease, traumatic luxations and fractures.
During the lunch break we will be happy to take you on a tour of the hospital.
After lunch, you will have the opportunity to practise some basic orthopaedic techniques, including plate contouring and application to a bone model, transcondylar screw placement, pin and tension band wiring, and even learn some arthroscopy skills or perform a tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO). This is designed to be a fun session to (re)gain familiarity with some of the equipment used in orthopaedic surgery. The afternoon session will also give you an opportunity to speak to our surgeons in an informal environment and ask any questions you have about orthopaedic surgery or the referral process.
