We work out of hours, not all hours.
We champion a healthy work-life balance and we want to create a rota pattern that works for you. Allowing you to enjoy a sustainable career with us, with enough time left over to dedicate to your family, hobbies, or exploring the United Kingdom.
Our standard full-time roles are an average of 40 hours per week (3 shifts), but we appreciate that one size doesn’t fit all and are happy to consider runs of shifts to maximise time off.
We aim to make joining us as easy as possible for you, so you and your family can focus on settling into your new home.
Our dedicated team will provide support in helping you find a new home, opening a bank account, obtaining Royal College of Surgeons registration and navigating the United Kingdom visa application processes.
If you are looking to work in the UK and travel home regularly, we can also provide support in securing temporary accommodation, booking flights and hiring a car.

Emergency Critical Care certificate for vets
To help you study for your Emegency Critcal Care certificate, you’ll get 100 hours of Continuing Professional Development per year plus 45 hours’ exam preparation time. You’ll also receive a ‘qualification award’ of up to £2,500 when you pass.
Continuing professional development
We offer a unique programme of training courses to help you continue your own learning and development.
Our training is diverse and flexible, you can study online at a time and place that suits you, attend onsite training sessions with your district team, day seminars, plus our annual Vets Now UK Congress.
We fund Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society membership for all vets and registered veterinary nurses, which gives access to online journals and discounted rates at the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Congress.
With Cutting Edge, you’ll spend the first 10 weeks of your new role learning everything you need to know about life in Emergency Critical Care. The programmme combines lectures and interactive seminars with mentored work in your relevant clinic.
You will spend some time in our central support hub in Scotland, participating in practical sessions, seminars, and lectures. When you complete your 10-week induction, you’ll be ready to get started in your full-time role.
AdvantEdge is a two-week intensive programme designed for veterinary surgeons looking to make the transition into an emergency and critical care role and who have at least two years of small animal or mixed practice experience.
Refresh and enhance your knowledge with up to 75 hours of emergency critical care personal development, including lectures delivered by world-renowned emergency clinicians, practical skills, surgical training and mentored shifts in our clinics – all in preparation for a sole-charge role in one of our clinics across the UK.
Usually there's a trade-off between having more money and having more time but working in the UK and living in Spain has really allowed me to enjoy the financial advantages of higher wages while still having great work-life balance.

The variety is a great perk of ECC. You get to do a little bit of internal medicine, a little bit of surgery, a little bit of neurology. And I love the faster pace, and the fact that you work with a smaller team. You get really close with your teammates. And In terms of work-life balance, the flexibility is great.
I like having the days to myself. I don't really need to sleep much, I never have. So I love that I can work and still have loads of time to myself for other things; reading, cooking, yoga, hiking, I can do everything. I don't have to sacrifice.

Before moving to the UK, I worked as a vet in several different countries and I always struggled to find a balance between a good quality of life and high clinical standards.
