We are committed to breaking down barriers for people to access a career in ECC and pride ourselves in being able to make it happen.
Outside of full-time and part-time, you might hear or see terms like roving contract or weekend only contracts and wonder what they are – we like to make things as transparent as possible for our people so here is a run down of the main shift patterns that we offer.
A roving vet surgeon will work in a variety of clinics within a defined, agreed geographical area. This will likely be 2-3 locations within your area, but rovers can work across a large variety of clinics if they are happy to travel.
Your rota can typically offer more flexibility to suit your needs as likely to be more shift availability than if you were working in 1 location.
A weekend vet surgeon will cover shifts on Saturday and/or Sunday only. You can choose the shift type you require (days, backshift or full nights) and how frequently you would like to work.
This might sound to good to be true, but it really is the case. We want to attract and keep our talented people.
During our peak times on shift, we often have a second vet or nurse on shift to support. There shifts are usually referred to as backshift, or twilight because they span across our traditional day and night shift to provide additional cover during the busiest times. These shifts are never full nights and are typically traditional shorter shifts. Eg, you may work as a Saturday backshift vet, working 16:00- 00:00 meaning you are there to support the handover between our day and night vet, and to support the evening.
Regardless of your role, if you’re looking for a caring, committed workplace, Vets Now may have a place for you. We’re also proud to be an employer that supports work-life balance for our teams, so if you are looking for a flexible schedule, we’re always open to having that conversation. Many of our roles are specifically scoped as weekend, part-time, or multi-site, so take a look and see what might fit for you. If you don’t see something that quite fits your requirements, please talk to us.
